What causes them? The main causes for dark circles are genetics and skin tone, Kenneth Howe, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist at Wexler Dermatology, tells SELF. The under-eye area can look purple or bluish because the skin there is so thin and translucent that you can easily see the underlying veins. It can be more apparent in people with fair skin, and those with very little subcutaneous fat supporting the area under the lower lid. Lack of sleep increases venous congestion; fluid build-up leads to pooled blood in those superficial blood vessels, making dark circles look even darker when you’re tired.
"If dark, puffy [bags under your eyes] seem to be the morning problem, consider sleeping on your back with an extra pillow so that fluid doesn't pool overnight. Keeping your pillow protected from allergens (dust and dust mites) with a protective encasement can also help when allergies are the culprit," says Rebecca Tung, a dermatologist in La Grange Park, Illinois.
“As the skin ages, its cellular turnover capabilities slow down. A gentle, weekly scrub promotes cell turnover and can help keep skin glowing and healthy-looking. Used once a week, this scrub gently exfoliates my skin without irritation and contains ingredients like lavender and probiotics to help calm things down. I have rosacea and I'm able to use this product without any issues. I consider it a nice wake up for my skin,” says Dr. Elizabeth Tanzi, M.D., assistant clinical professor, Department of Dermatology at the George Washington University Medical Center.

“Sunscreen is the most important anti-aging product because the sun is responsible for 90 percent of skin aging. This is my favorite face sunscreen because it doesn’t irritate even the most sensitive skin — we even use it on patients after laser procedures. It’s water-resistant and adds a light tint to your skin, which is great for when you want to go sans makeup. I apply it after my moisturizer and before my makeup. Just be sure to reapply if you’re outdoors all day,” says Dr. Arielle Kauvar, M.D, a New York City-based dermatologist and clinical professor of dermatology at Langone NYU Medical Center.

Fermented green tea offers numerous skincare benefits and is the key ingredient in this anti-aging cream. Antioxidants in green tea, including polyphenols, are known to help repair UV damage and force cancer-causing cells to deteriorate. “The antioxidant activity of polyphenols help protect skin cells from premature damage from environmental factors,” says Dr. Tzu. “This helps decelerate the aging process.”
"First of all... What sort of magic is in this container? I have been using the Olay Regenerist night cream for about a year, and I just decided to try this product out. In one week wrinkles are clearing up. Especially in the area of my forehead. I live in a country that is very hot and humid and pores can get clogged easily. This works perfectly. " —De Bajan Girl

We wanted an anti-aging cream with a full arsenal of defenses, so we required our top picks to contain hyaluronic acid of some type. But we opted to bring all 8 of our remaining contenders into the office for hands-on testing — four with HA and four without. This allowed us to check out drugstore runners-up like RoC, which are a lot cheaper and easier to find than brands like La Prairie (and can be paired with a face moisturizer containing HA).
We’ve all seen movie makeover scenes involving someone sporting a brightly colored face mask, paired with cucumber slices over their eyes, but is that really a thing? As it turns out, yes! It makes sense if you think about it. “Cool as a cucumber” isn’t a saying for nothing. The cool quality of the cucumber slices can aid in reducing puffiness. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that you’ll feel like you’re straight out of your favorite rom com.
Same! I only see a reference to the refund and free box in the preview of the e-mail while I’m looking at my entire mailbox. If I open the message, the subject says nothing about a refund and free box, and the body of the e-mail just says they apologize for the shipping delay. I’m not optimistic the refund and bonus box will really happen. I think that part may have been a mistake.

Like our other runner up pick, IT Cosmetics was docked primarily because of how it’s packaged. It comes in a jar, so every time you open it, all of the cream is exposed, leaving the key ingredients more vulnerable to degradation. More seriously, the cream can become a hotbed for bacteria if you’re not diligent about washing your hands before each use.
Just thought I would let you all know that I got a letter from Allure today stating they are out of the SR serum from November and don’t anticipate replenishing. They didn’t offer any replacement in the letter, but I called CS and they are sending some sort of beauty bundle to me. Sorry if this news is disappointing for any of you, bc I know I was super disappointed.

Let’s get one myth out of the way: It really doesn’t hurt that much, especially when you’re the one in control. Dermatologists use something called a Dermapen for in-office treatments, and that’s a little more intense—bleeding is a common side effect. (That’s why they call it the “vampire” facial.) But a dermaroller is a little less hardcore, and you can press as hard as your pain threshold allows.

AHAs save the day by dissolving lipids, the adhesive that clings to old cells. This exfoliation process allows old cells to be sloughed away and alerts our bodies to make new cells as a replacement, resulting in fresher, younger-looking skin. There are many types of AHAs in nature, but glycolic acid and lactic acid have the ability to penetrate skin, so those are the two we targeted to find the best anti-aging cream.
As you age, the tissue structures and muscles supporting your eyelids weaken with the loss of collagen. This weakening of the tissue can cause the skin to begin sagging. The fat that is normally found in the area around the eyes may move into the area below your eyes, accumulating fluid and making the under-eye area appear puffy or swollen. Some things that can make this happen are fluid retention due to changes in weather, hormone levels, eating salty foods, not getting enough sleep, allergies, dermatitis — especially if puffiness is accompanied by redness and itching — and heredity. Also in the formula is Vichy’s signature Mineralizing Water. They consider this volcanic water to be a “miracle of nature”, and it’s easy to see why! It is rich in as many as 15 minerals and can give strength to your skin’s natural moisture barrier, which helps your skin protect itself against potential damage. Not only is it completely natural, but it is also impossible to recreate it scientifically. This mineralizing Water is a key ingredient in all of Vichy’s skincare products.
Using this method, you can work out that higher SPF ratings don’t actually give you much more protection than medium SPF ratings. The Skin Cancer Foundation reports that SPF 15 blocks 93% of UVB rays, SPF 30 blocks 97% and SPF 50 blocks 98%. While these differences seem insignificant, they can still make a great difference over time, especially if you have fair skin or a history of cancer.
As you age, the tissue structures and muscles supporting your eyelids weaken. The skin may start to sag, and fat that is normally confined to the area around the eye (orbit) can move into the area below your eyes. Also, the space below your eyes can accumulate fluid, making the under-eye area appear puffy or swollen. Several factors cause or worsen this effect, including:
"Caffeinated tea, which contains natural tannins, is a mild diuretic and long used by grandmothers and runway models for reducing eye puffiness. Soak two tea bags in warm water, then chill the bags for a few minutes in the refrigerator. Place one tea bag on each eye for five minutes, and your eyes will feel fresh and look brighter," says Karen Hammerman, a dermatologist in New York City.
The very best way to tackle wrinkles is to prevent them in the first place. Everyone we spoke to — dermatologists and chemists alike — noted that the most important wrinkle-fighting product you should own is sunscreen. And not just any sunscreen: a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 (as we learned when reviewing the best sunscreen). Stick with SPF 30; wear it every single day; and reapply as often as the instructions tell you to.

I subscribed on Dec. 8th, 2018. Allure charged my bank account that very same day. No delays there. I understood that they ship boxes the third week of the month, and that is when I received my tracking number. Note: They also say, you will be billed on the same day of month as when you sign up. I received my December 2018 box on December 24th, which was a great day... Christmas Eve. As I was looking at the "new to me" subscription box as a Christmas present to myself. So this was my first Allure box ever. My box arrived with one item in it...damaged.
Subscribed to the beauty box via MSA in early August, inputted a different shipping and billing address and they shipped it to my billing address anyway. I called and asked Allure why would they ask for that information if they're going to ship it to the billing address regardless, and they said that there are multiple ways to sign up and usually it defaults to the billing address, even if the shipping option is specified (so why even ask for shipping if that's the case? remove the option?). I contacted them multiple times via phone to see when they would send my beauty box (to the correct address this time). I was originally told 5-10 business days. After ten business days with no box, I reached back out and this time spoke to a manager. She was understanding, refunded my money, said she would send it out again but she informed me they only ship boxes out ONCE A MONTH. it would be 21-30 days for me to receive that box.
For those struggling with dark spots, women reported that L'Oréal Paris Youth Code Dark Spot Correcting & Illuminating Serum Corrector lived up to its name. "It really lightened my dark spots and evened my skin tone," said one. Volunteers who used this serum solely on their chests reported even better results: "It really reduced my freckles there." It also earned praise for its light scent and nonirritating formula.
So disgusted!!! I've only had this subscription for 3 months (May being the third month) and all 3 months I've had to contact customer service! The first month- it was 3 weeks after my payment posted to my bank account before I received an email stating my box was shipped and on its way. They said that's how it goes with the first months box. So ok. Then the second month, April, the money is posted to my account. When you sign up it states onces the money is withdrawn from your bank account, once it posts you will receive an email stating it has shipped. So 3-4 days go by still no email. A week. Still no email. Once again almost 3 weeks go by before I receive an email that the box has even shipped! They tell me sorry for the delay, I write back saying, "yes I see that there is a delay, but why is there such a delay? When you order it states once the money is posted in your account you will receive an email about shipping, not several weeks later" no reply back. So this month (May) I check my bank account and I notice that they double charged me. Once on May 11th and again on May 14th. I write them about this double charge asking to be reimbursed. Later that day (may 16th) there is a reversal charge and the money is put back into my account. They get back to me on the 18th stating that "there was only one charge which was May 11th which is for my beauty box and that their records show no charge on May 14th!!! So I wrote them back and told them that is strange because I can see it right on my account. I took pictures of both charges with the dates as well as the reversal charge and told them I don't know how it was taken care of but thankfully it was because it doesn't sound like I would of received much help!!! I am seriously debating cancelling my subscription. I do like the products which is why I gave this review one star! Let's see when i receive the email about shipping! As of today it has been a week since the payment was posted to my bank account!!!
It’s not hard to cancel Allure at all. I think people just aren’t looking hard enough on the website. Go to FAQ’s. It’ll help. Also, my experience with customer service for the past 5 years has been stellar. I dunno. I think it’s important to use diplomacy for best outcomes with these companies. I always start with praise and tell them I know they will offer the best solution to the problem/complaint. It has worked for me.

I saw Allure online and it offered $5 off. It came with full-size products. The quality of the products was great. I am disabled so to have this delivered to my door each month is wonderful. I can have fun each month playing with my kit. It is only $15 a month and so exciting to receive. You never know what you will receive and I look forward to it each month. The Skinfix clay cleaner is wonderful and makes my face feel so soft. I also like the eyeshadow color and ease of use. But I wish all products were full size. I would also like it designed more for me and what I would want each month. So far, all the products have been very good. The eye shadow and lipstick colors are not always my color though. I wish there was more black eye circle concealers too. Overall it is good. I love it!
No matter how old you are, we bet that one of the last things you want to show up on your pretty little face—right up there with fine lines and wrinkles and dark spots—is a set of bags under your eyes. Ugh, be gone, puffiness! If this is something you’re dealing with, you’ve probably searched high and low to find out how to get rid of under-eye bags. Sadly, there’s no magic solution that’ll completely get rid of the puffiness under your eyes—but there are some skin care products and tips you can add to your skin care routine to help reduce the look of under-eye bags. Of course, it’s also important to understand what can cause under-eye bags in the first place. Keep reading to find out about the most common reasons behind noticeable under-eye bags, plus learn multiple ways—15, to be specific—to help minimize their appearance.
I've seen an ad on T.V. showing a male model applying Plexaderm under his eyes to remove bags. Since I have horrible bags that are due to hereditary and age (I’m 54) I thought maybe I would try it before I make an appointment for injections. Then i thought ... no this is just another gimmick. Well after about 2 weeks of constantly seeing the ad for Plexaderm, I thought I don't have anything to lose since it's a Money Back Guarantee... So, I ordered a bottle. I must admit it took me a couple of days to even open the box since I already prepared myself to be disappointed.
To get the most out of your Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream, you will want to first gently cleanse your skin and apply the Elemis Pro-Collagen Quartz Lift Serum. We recommend you cleanse your skin using the Elemis Pro-Radiance Cream Cleanser, which you can get here from Amazon, which is designed to be used for anti-aging. After you have applied the serum, you can gently massage the marine cream in.
It’s tough to be consistent when you won’t see results for weeks, months, or sometimes even years. But keep the faith. A wrinkle cream with the right ingredients will ultimately keep you looking younger. “These products won’t work if you don’t use them consistently for several weeks,” says Dr. Ford. “Try taking a selfie at the beginning of treatment and again at 90 days,” she recommends. “See if change is occurring: your freckles should be lighter, wrinkles should be less noticeable, and your skin more radiant.”
What causes them? Puffy eyes are the result of temporary swelling that is often caused by seasonal allergies. Puffiness can also arise if you’ve had too much salt or alcohol, which can leave you dehydrated—that leads to water retention, which in turn leads to swelling in the face. Lack of sleep makes puffy eyes worse, too, because of the pooling of fluid in the area. As a result, puffiness is often worse in the morning and resolves itself by the afternoon as the accumulated fluid drains with the help of gravity and time.
If you're often tired, stressed out, or sleep-deprived, then you most likely have had under-eye bags before. Under-eye bags are unsightly, making us look haggard, sick and old. Luckily, there are tons of products on the market to reduce eye bags, and many of them are inexpensive! Here are 5 cheap products that dermatologist swear by to get rid of under-eye bags.
I saw it advertised online and thought it would be a great way to try new beauty products without spending a lot of money on them first. I also was attracted to the ad showing some high-end cosmetics, like NARS. I liked the fact the box would contain some beauty products I'd never heard of, especially skin care products. I also liked the beauty tools that were included. However, I received a lot of products that I wouldn't use or colors outside of my palette. I would prefer it to be more customized, and I wish it had an option to be sent every other month as opposed to every month.
Like our top pick, Dr. Dennis, The Ordinary is applied with a dropper. Our testers preferred Dr. Dennis’ angled tip over The Ordinary’s straight one, which they found trickier to control, but it was still a huge step up from dipping a finger into a jar. It’s an emulsion, which is similar to a serum, with a consistency that put us in mind of liquified lotion.
Alcohol dehydrates your body and skin. This dehydration can cause the delicate area around your eyes to appear sunken and dark. Also, alcohol can cause bloodshot, tired eyes. Take it easy on the alcohol by having no more than one glass per day. I would suggest drinking lots of water instead. You will feel fresher, your eyes will be wide open and the skin around your eyes will glow because it’s more hydrated.

Eat your beauty nutrients. For under-eyes, make sure you’re getting enough Vitamins C (brightening and collagen-boosting) & E (works with C, and moisturizing), Omega-3 (for repairing damage), and silica (basis of collagen). Vitamin K is a blood clotter, and can help reduce darkness by controlling seepage. This means tons of fruits and vegetables, hemp seeds, hemp milk, walnuts, and leafy greens.

Luckily for us, 2019 (and the technology it brings) allows us to turn back the clock a bit and live life without a topographical map of wrinkles. Whether you’re trying to stave off that very first wrinkle or treat years of skin damage, adding a good pro-collagen cream into your skincare arsenal is a fantastic way to look as youthful and confident as you feel on the inside!
And I was officially hooked. At only 23, I was used to looking perpetually exhausted. Genetics had played a role, sure, but very long hours at the office and a stress-ridden lifestyle certainly hadn’t helped. Even if I was able to diminish the shadows under my eyes with a heavy layer of colour-correcting concealer, the bags remained—and in some cases, the creasing made them look even more obvious. But I was still happier to resign myself to this rather than the alternative: As much as I wanted to say screw it and just go without makeup, you can only get (rude) remarks like “Are you feeling all right?” and “Whoa—late night?” so many times before it starts to sting.
Consider retinol the gold standard in skincare. Lasers aside, it's the most-trusted ingredient that derms turn to to trigger skin regeneration. Specifically, it helps speed cell turnover and boost collagen and elastin production (two proteins responsible for skin firmness) to keep you fine line-free. Smooth on this gentle, effective cream nightly after you cleanse your face.
While ROC does contain retinoids and AHAs, the two most important anti-wrinkle ingredients, it’s missing sodium hyaluronate, our favorite moisturizing ingredient. An easy work-around is to add a face moisturizer to your routine — preferably one that does contain sodium hyaluronate. (Both our top picks for best face moisturizer feature it, if you need a recommendation.)
Dr. Tzu says retinol helps increase collagen production and normalize differentiation of the top layer of skin. Clinically, it’s used to smooth the skin, even out discoloration, and unclog pores. But you’ll want to be mindful of retinol’s tendencies to amplify the skin’s sensitivity to the sun and be sure to always wear plenty of SPF when you use retinol skincare products throughout the day.
But for me, the most remarkable aspect is that while these very noticeable results are certainly advertised at the cosmetic dermatologist’s office after hundreds of dollars worth of treatments, I’ve been able to see such a dramatic transformation at home, with a comparably minute investment of $27 to $40—and far less blood, pain, and inflammation, too. Why isn’t everyone doing this?
So, you slather your skin from head to toe with sunscreen, but you avoid getting your SPF too close to your eyes. It may sound reasonable, since you don’t want to deal with stinging, burning eyes. But that doesn’t negate your need for sun protection in that area. For an easy solution, seek out an eye cream that’s formulated with SPF. Additionally, make sure you wear the proper accessories. When you’ll be exposed to the sun, don a pair of large sunglasses that provide UV protection with a wide brimmed hat. Besides defending against sun damage, proper sun protection can help prevent under-eye bags.
When it comes to targeting under-eye puffiness at home, New York City dermatologist Dr. David Colbert advises looking for products with gentle ingredients–chamomile, algae extract, liquorice root, hyaluronic acid and oils like argan, pomegranate, or marula. For a quick fix, Colbert's eye gel combines hyaluronic acid with aloe, horse chestnut, and mulberry to calm puffiness and minimize dark circles.
Similar issue here. I ordered Allure in November as part of the promotion. Not only did I not receive the Sunday Riley gift (and I was one of the first to order under the promotion) but I didn’t get my November box, either. I called customer service and their answer is a big “I don’t know,” so I’ve cancelled again. Sorry, @lizcadman , you’re not getting any more commissions off me because this promotion was garbage and I don’t trust the next one not to be garbage, too.
